The Who

The Who

Band: The Who
Opening Act: Joan Jett & the B-52’s
Date: November 27, 1982
Venue: Tangerine Bowl, Orlando Florida
Ticket Price: $15.75

I grew up thinking there were three great classic rock bands – The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, & The Who (Note: The Beatles were in a class of their own). But of the three, I found The Who to be the band that I just couldn’t relate to. I like them. And I consider them to be legendary. But I definitely prefer the Stones and Zeppelin.

With that said, I have to admit that this was a great concert. Pete Townshend is a great performer. And John Entwistle is an unbelievably talented bass player.

The song that stands out in my memory from the concert was “We Won’t Get Fooled Again!” Definitely a great concert song!

Jimmy Buffett

Band: Jimmy Buffett
Date: Oct 31, 1982
Venue: USF Sun Dome
Ticket Price: $12.50

I grew up in Florida. And I have a great appreciation for sand, waves, boats, sun, flip-flops, accoustic guitars, shrimp, & margaritaville.

Some of my favs:

Haul the sheet in as we ride on the wind that our
Forefathers harnessed before us.
Hear the bells ring as the tide rigging sings.
It’s a son of a gun of a chorus.

Where it all ends I can’t fathom, my friends.
If I knew, I might toss out my anchor.
So I’ll cruise along always searchin’ for songs,
Not a lawyer, a thief or a banker.
………………………………
Yes, I am a pirate two hundred years too late.
The cannons don’t thunder there’s nothin’ to plunder
I’m an over forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late.
………………………………
Headin’ up to San Francisco
for the Labor Day weekend show…
………………………………
Yeah, but now I’m gettin’ old, don’t wear underwear,
I don’t go to church, and I don’t cut my hair;
But I can go to movies and see it all there,
Just the way that it use to be.
………………………………
I want to go back to the island,
Where the shrimp boats tie up to the pilin’.
Give me oysters and beer for dinner ev’ry day of the year,
And I’ll feel fine, I’ll feel fine.
