I'm convinced that without Randy, Ozzy would never been much more than the singer for Black Sabbath (which would have been good enough). Who replaced him on guitar for the concert?
He is definitely a legend. Randy played a critical role in getting Ozzy's solo career off the ground. Regarding the concert, Ozzy did not play. Randy died the day before the show. So Ozzy canceled. I did see Ozzy a few years later with Jake E Lee (I'll eventually post about that concert).
I agree. Randy played a critical role in getting Ozzy’s solo career off the ground. He redifined music with his alternative variations in his songwriting. He was an angel with a guitar, no questions asked.
Randy Rhoads was, just plain and simply, a legend. What a double bill!
I love Ozzy and Randy smoked on the axe, and it was a sheer tragedy, but let’s give Foreigner their due as on that tour they were at the height of their success and rocked just as hard and expertly as the Ozzman and his band. I'm from the Orlando area and went to a lot of shoes in Lakeland and the Jai Alai Fronton in Fern Park (it was apparently the exclusive showcase for "new wave" acts). Pat Travers covered Ozzy's spot - he lived about 20 minutes from the Tangerine Bowl at the time.
Great site. Tragic..I remember reading about the accident in the English press...still makes me sad to think about it.
Shame Randy did not make those huge arenas…just as he was finally getting a name for himself. Ozzy (and Randy) were for sure the main reason I wanted to see this show. I was a HUGE Ozzy fan and was severely bummed out about the plane crash the day before the show. I decided to go anyway, but I was too disapointed to enjoy it. Pat Travers was no substitute, but I guess that's the best the promoters could do on such short notice. I'm sill pissed, as I never saw Ozzy after that. It would not have been the same without Randy anyway. Thanks, Mike (Orlando)
I also went to this show.
