The Who

Band: The Who
Opening Act: Joan Jett & the B-52’s
Date: November 27, 1982
Venue: Tangerine Bowl, Orlando Florida
Ticket Price: $15.75

I grew up thinking there were three great classic rock bands – The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, & The Who (Note: The Beatles were in a class of their own). But of the three, I found The Who to be the band that I just couldn’t relate to. I like them. And I consider them to be legendary. But I definitely prefer the Stones and Zeppelin.

With that said, I have to admit that this was a great concert. Pete Townshend is a great performer. And John Entwistle is an unbelievably talented bass player.

The song that stands out in my memory from the concert was “We Won’t Get Fooled Again!” Definitely a great concert song!

I was at this show too. I seem to recall, the B-52’s and Joan Jett gettng boo’d off the stage. Long day waiting for the Who to come on, but once they did, it was prpbably one of the best live performances I ever saw. Like you, I was never a great Who fan, but they were very impressive.

I was at this show as well. The Animals opened up and were awful until the last 2 songs of their set. I don’t know if they took a while to get warmed up or for the stimulants to kick in, but the end of their set was great. I think they were supporting a new album at the time (a 1980’s Animals album – go figure). I remember the booing of the B-52’s and the quick end of their set, brought on by Fred Schneider catching a shoe to the side of his head.
The Who were great, better than expected.
